Businessman Stabs Wife In Her Private Part… for sleeping with his boy

A 37-year old man, Victor Ojiaku, who allegedly stabbed his wife, a student, with a broken bottle in her private part, is on reprieve as an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court has granted him N250,000 bail.
Ojiaku, who sells automobile parts and resides at 22, Arike John Close, White Sand, Isheri-Osun in Lagos, had reportedly stabbed his wife for having s*x with his sales representative.

Magistrate Akeem Fashola, who gave the ruling, said he should produce two sureties working in reputable firm and possess three years tax clearance as well as the State’s residents identity card.

The case was taken up by the Lagos State Domestic and S*xual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).

The Coordinator of DSVRT, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, narrated how the victim was kept indoors and punished severely by her husband.

“The victim, Faith Ojiaku, 27, a student, was held hostage by her husband for two days, depriving her of calling any of her family members for help or for receiving medical attention.

“She was subsequently rushed to the hospital for treatment after which she collapsed, she then pleaded with the doctor to make use of his phone to call her sister.

“It was her sister that informed DSVRT which advised her to report the case at the Police station on behalf of her stabbed sister.

“He also injured the sales representative with a broken bottle and some dangerous weapons.

“We had an official meeting with the DPO who told us that the suspect was arrested on December 27 and he ensured that justice would be done in the case,” she stated.

The husband, a father of three, is facing a six-count charge bordering on assault, etc.

No date has been fixed for the trial of the case.

Dino Melaye Doesn't Have Constituency Office; offers youths N1,000 for condoms

So with all the tough talking Dino Melaye has been doing and collecting Constituency allowance, he doesn’t even have a Constituency Office as prescribed by law? Naija politicians. Lolz!

According to SR investigation, Senator Dino Melaye, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, has no constituency office in the entire Kogi West that comprises Lokoja, Ijumu, Kaba/Bunu, Koto/Karfi, Mopa/Amuro, Yagba East and Yagba West local government areas, even though he receives funds from the Senate to finance such an office.

“Kaba is the headquarters of Kogi West Senatorial District and there is nowhere here that you will find a Dino Melaye’s Kogi West senatorial office,” a local government worker in Kaba told our correspondent. He added of Mr. Melaye, who is fond of showing off his ostentatious mansions and automobile collection, “Everybody knows the former senator, Smart Adeyemi’s, senatorial office in Odolu area here in Kaba. In fact, Senator Adeyemi also ran annex offices in other local government areas.”

On his official page on the National Assembly’s website, Mr. Melaye lists his constituency address as Iluafon Quarters, Aiyetoro-Gbede, Ijumu local government area, Kogi. But Sahara Reporters learnt that there was no such place as ‘Iluafon Quarters’ in Aiyetoro-Gbede. Two places identified as Iluafon, however, are a village of less than ten houses that is about 12 miles away from Aiyetoro-Gbede (where Mr. Melaye has his country home) and an area in Aiyetoro-Gbede called Iluafon because people from the original Iluafon village had migrated there.

“Iluafon Quarters, inside this village? There is nothing like that,” one of the villagers in Iluafon told our correspondent. “And Senator Dino Melaye doesn’t have any office here. Even his family house that used to be in this village before his forefathers moved to Aiyetoro-Gbede has collapsed,” she added.

When SR visited the second place known as Iluafon area inside Aiyetoro-Gbede town, he could not find the ‘Quarters’ where Senator Melaye claims he has his constituency office. The only thing traced to him there was a bungalow the locals told our correspondent belonged to the senator’s father.

“The only place Dino paid for is the APC secretariat for Kogi West. It is along Kaba-Aiyetoro Road, and we don’t expect him to point to that as his senatorial constituency office because he only rented it for the party and the activities done here are for the party,” an APC party member in Kaba told our correspondent. He added: “When we were constituency executives, he wasn’t paying us any allowances.”

It was also gathered that the senator has done little for his constituents.

“Since he became a senator, what he has done was distributing grinding machines during the last Salah festival, and distributing 10kg bags of rice this Christmas. And then there’s the bus he gave to National Union of Road transport Workers,” one of the locals in Kaba told our correspondent. The source added, “Imagine a senator like him with his fat constituency allowance giving 20 bags per ward where mere local government chairmen are giving 50, and only Melaye’s diehard loyalists even get the rice.”

“Melaye is a betrayal,” a man who identified himself as a youth leader said. “We saw him as a young and vibrant politician and that was why we gave him all our support but all he does now is go on social media to announce the purchase of his new cars. And when he comes home (Kaba/Aiyetoro-Gbede), he deliberately drives through popular junctions where boys are seated to show off his cars and shoes and then he would give N1, 000 each saying use that for condom money. Tell anybody here about condom money and they already know it’s the N1, 000 Melaye gives boys at junctions where he drives around just to show you his new stuffs.”

Another aggrieved supporter of the senator said, “After six months in office, [Senator Melaye] told us he [was] coming to implement some projects especially in Kaba, the so-called senatorial headquarters. He even collected our names, that we will be the ones to supervise the projects. Sadly, we are yet to see him come for the projects.

Look at the road from Ayede garage to Ole/Iluke, so horrible. Look at Kaba/Bunu where we have 39 villages, only four of these villages have electricity. Even the fourth one, Iluke, is just worse than those without light. And this Bunu is an area Melaye used rigorously to campaign, promising to fix the electricity if elected. No good hospitals, dilapidated schools everywhere in his constituency, yet he goes about celebrating his new Ferrari and all.”

During a visit to Kaba/Aiyetoro, the senatorial headquarters, SR found no project connected to Senator Dino Melaye.

“The things you will see here are his mansion and that of his brother, Samuel, who does nothing. Even the road leading to [Senator Melaye’s] mansion is a dusty one like everywhere in Aiyetoro,” one of the locals in Aiyetoro complained.

Police make 50 arrests after raid on Nigerian drug ring in Vienna, Austria

Police in Vienna on Thursday, December 29th, arrested 50 people in connection with a Nigerian drug ring which operated in the Austrian capital. Investigators said they had been on the trail of the gang for the past three years, and that in that time it has netted a profit of over €6 million. 21 kilos of illegal drugs, mainly cocaine and heroin, were seized during the raids.
However, police told a press conference on Friday that the gang would probably cut the drugs with other substances to increase the amount that could be sold on the street to around 100 kilos. The drugs were mainly sold in Vienna by Nigerian dealers. Detective Georg Rabensteiner said that 100 kilos of drugs would “cover” demand in Vienna for a few months.

Police first became aware of the gang’s existence at the end of 2012, when a Nigerian man was caught smuggling €250,000 in cash hidden within cars which were brought from Vienna to Nigeria. An investigation revealed that the money came from drug trafficking. Gang members regularly sent over large amounts of drugs to Austria via ten people who acted as drug mules.

The couriers would swallow between one and one and a half kilograms of drugs, which were then sold in Vienna. Police said that the cocaine and heroin which was seized was 80 percent pure.

Donald Trump praises Putin for delaying any retaliation against the US after Pres. Obama's sanctions

Russian president Vladimir Putin has decided not to retaliate against the US for expelling 35 Russian diplomats and imposing sanctions on two of the country’s intelligence agencies on Thursday. He made this statement after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the country planned to expel 35 U.S. diplomatic staff from Moscow and close two facilities used by the U.S. embassy in Russia.

The RIA news agency quoted Putin as saying that he would consider the actions of President-elect Donald Trump, who takes office next month, when deciding on further steps in Russia-U.S. relations. A move President-elect Trump approved.

He took to his Twitter account to Praise Putin for his decision, saying he was a smart man.

He then tweeted later in the day mocking CNN and NBC News.

"Destructive, offensive" SA businessman slammed over "Why Nigerian men always take your women" advice

Reacting to the SA businessman, Gayton McKenzie’s take on love, relationships and why Nigerian men always take their women, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) national spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi said the advice is offensive and demeaning to women.

As previously reported by usnew, Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader, McKenzie had advised South African men to get their finances in order if they wanted to keep their women. He further urged them to look up to Nigerian men who worked hard and, ultimately, won women’s hearts.

“Poems don’t buy Louboutins” he added

In a series of tweets, Ndlozi slammed the PA leader, who is an outspoken critic of EFF leader Julius Malema, saying every progressive man should find McKenzie’s argument “distasteful” as it mobilised men to view women as “idlers looking for blessers”.
“Why should we always see women as attained by cash? Because in essence, for such men, it represents their own inferiority and masculine injury,” he said.

Ndlozi says he refuses to be identified with McKenzie’s philosophy on love, which “demeans” women and expresses the true roots of violence against them.
The argument is further rooted in a destructive patriarchal attitude which often serves as basis of an entitlement men have on women.

“Basically, it means extending the brothel from buying of sex to also buying love. Even sex workers dispute that love can be bought or sold,” he said.
This philosophy shows the worst form of sickness that believes in money buying love, according to Ndlozi.
McKenzie’s take on love, he says, also has xenophobic undertones, “destructive masculinity and patriarchy” and is offensive to women and relationships.
Furthermore, it shows that though McKenzie is out of prison, his mind remains there, with Ndlozi calling it “the destructive masculinity prison of misogyny.

In fact, it was his obsession with money and the philosophy that one will not be loved if he does not have money that put McKenzie in prison in the first place, says Ndlozi. “Now all black men must take this advice, believe love is for sale! Will they not end up in prison like he did? No! Blacks got better to do!”

Ambassador To Brazil Murdered After He Caught His Wife's With Her Lover

Greek ambassador Kyriakos Amiridis vanished without trace on Boxing Day, when he left the home of his wife’s relatives in Rio de Janeiro and never returned
The Greek ambassador to Brazil whose body was found in a burnt-out car in Rio de Janeiro was murdered after finding his wife in bed with another man, police believe.

The charred remains of Kyriakos Amiridis, 59, were found on Wednesday underneath an overpass in the city, inside the car the diplomat had hired to spend Christmas and New Year with his wife’s relatives.

His Brazilian wife Francoise Amiridis told police she was out shopping on Monday night when he phoned her at 8pm, saying he was going out, and never returned home.

But today police investigating the case claimed they believe his death was a “crime of passion” after he had discovered that his wife was having an affair with another man.

Investigators reportedly found blood stains in the apartment, which belongs to his wife, where the couple had been staying in the Nova Iguacu district of the city.

Police believe he was murdered in the apartment some time between Tuesday and Wednesday before his body was dumped in the hired car and set on fire yesterday morning.

The man Ms Amiridis was believed to have been having an affair with is reportedly a military police officer who works at a police base situated a local slum.

Investigators told Brazil’s Extra newspaper that they believe Ms Amiridis may have paid a contract killer to murder her husband after he found out about their relationship.

Ms Amiridis, who is not yet under arrest, denies havin hands with the ambassador’s death, claiming he never returned home on Monday, and didn’t know why there was blood on the sofa.

Police are reportedly analysing the sofa, as well as CCTV images from the area.

Man Stabs Married Woman For Fighting His Wife In Lagos

A 41-year-old welder, Lukmon Kolawole, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing a married woman with bottle for fighting his wife.

The man, a resident of Aresanolu St. Agege, Lagos, is being tried for breach of peace and assault.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the accused committed the offence on Dec. 19 at his residence.

He said that the accused assaulted one Mrs Joy Asekharme by beating and stabbing her on her head.

Nwosu said that the accused came home and met his wife in a physical fight with the complainant.

“He came home to meet his wife in a fight with his co-tenant, instead of him to separate the fight, he joined his wife in the fight by punching the complainant all over her body.

“The accused was not satisfied with the punches alone so, he rushed inside to pick a bottle, smashed it on the ground and stabbed the complainant on her head,” he said.

The offence contravened sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 171 prescribes three years jail term for offenders.

The accused pleaded innocence of the offence and was granted bail a N50,000 bail with two sureties .

The Magistrate, A.A. Adesanya adjourned the case to January 16, 2017, for mention.

Wike Raises Alarm: APC Plotting To Bomb My Plane

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the state of planning to bomb him while travelling in a plane.

Wike explained that the target was for the state APC to get rid of him in its desperate bid to unseat the Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the state.

Maintaining that no one had the ability to destroy what God had blessed, Wike said the opposition party in the state was not happy that he was paying workers’ salaries and pensions to retirees despite the economic recession.

Wike, who spoke on Thursday at a thanksgiving service organised by the state PDP in Port Harcourt, criticised those calling for bloodshed in the state for selfish reasons.

The governor said blood would continue to flow in their families.

He explained that God would continue to grant him victory no matter how hard the APC leaders in the state planned to eliminate him.

“They said they will blow the plane that I will board. You are plotting, do you know whether God will blow your own plane before that time?” the governor said, adding that the state was under constant assault by the leaders of the opposition party.

REACTION
APC state Publicity Secretary, Chris Finebone, said the allegation by Wike underscored the extent the governor had become frightened by his (Wike) own shadow and past iniquities.

He said, “Governor Wike’s accusation that the APC is planning to bomb his plane simply underscores the extent the governor has become hysterically frightened of his own shadows and his past iniquities.

“It is quite unfortunate that Governor Wike has become helpless in dealing with the outcome of his past actions, but constantly suffering psychological relapses.

“However, it is unfortunate that for want of credible defence of the many serious accusations against him, Governor Wike is resorting to raising wild accusations against the APC.

“Nigerians now have a proof of the person that prides himself in threatening to kill people and definitely the person is not of the APC.”

ALERT | No Plastic Rice In Nigeria But…

Over 40,000 bags of rice seized by the Nigeria Customs Service have been shared to Internally Displaced Persons’ camps, its Comptroller-General, Col. Hameed Ali, has stated.
The Customs CG, represented by a Deputy Comptroller-General, Umar Ilya, said this on Thursday in Abuja, at a joint press briefing with the acting DG of NAFDAC, Mrs. Yetunde Oni, on the outcome of laboratory tests conducted on the confiscated rice allegedly imported into the country.

At the event, Oni explained that no plastic rice was imported into the country.

She, however, said the rice was “contaminated with microorganisms above permissible limit.”

“Based on the above laboratory result, the product is not plastic but rice contaminated with micro-organisms above permissible limit, hence the seized rice consignment is unsatisfactory and therefore unwholesome for human consumption. The consignment upon handover by the Nigeria Customs Service shall be destroyed,” Oni emphasised.

While explaining the circumstances surrounding the alleged plastic rice, he said the NCS only responded to a security alert issued by the Office of the National Security Adviser on the importation of plastic rice into the country.

On the bags of good rice seized from traders who illegally imported the staple food to Nigeria, Ilya explained that the NCS had, after subjected the rice to test, given them to IDPs.

He said, “We have seized over 40,000 bags of rice so far since the ban on importation of rice through the land borders. Those are the bags of rice that are being shared to the IDPs camps. But that is after we have tested and certified them suitable for consumption.”

Third Mainland Bridge: Police Nab More Suspects… patrolling waterways

The police have arrested three other suspects in connection with a plan by a militant group to bomb the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.
The marine police had also intensified water patrol around the bridge area to avert any attack from members of the gang, who were on the run.

It had been reported that a bomb expert of the group, Abiodun Amos, aka Senti, was apprehended by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

He was said to have been apprehended during the last phase of the foiled plan with two Ak-47 rifles and a cache of explosives recovered from the boot of his car.

43-year-old Amos, an indigene of Arugbo in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, reportedly confessed to the police to have participated in various robberies and kidnappings in Lagos and Ogun states after the bombardment of creeks around the states, which frustrated the gang’s pipeline vandalism operations.

He told the police that the group, led by one General Ossy, was aggrieved that the government did not yield to its amnesty request and demand for pipeline protection contract.

“General Ossy said if we didn’t blow up the Third Mainland Bridge, government would not listen to us. We had concluded plans and we decided to carry out the attack by November ending. I am the group’s explosive expert. We were about going into the creek to conclude plans on how to carry out the attack when I was arrested,” he had said.

A credible police source told Punch that after Amos’ arrest, three others had been apprehended in Lagos and Delta states.

The source, however, said the police withheld the identities of the suspects in order not to jeopardize investigations and the arrest of other fleeing members of the gang.

Soon-To-Wed Woman Killed By Steward In Lagos Buried

It was an emotion-packed atmosphere yesterday as late Temidayo Adeleke, who was stabbed to death by her Cameroonian house help, was laid to rest at The Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Prior to the burial, a funeral service attended by families and friends of the deceased was held at Guiding Light Assembly on Parkview Estate, where the victim lived.

Recalled that Joel Ludguo approached the 32-year-old lady around 10.30pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, and asked for advance payment of N15,000 out of his N27,000 salary.

Adeleke, whose marriage was slated for early 2017, was said to have pleaded with him to be patient, saying she did not have naira notes on her. But he refused.

Her entreaty fell on deaf ears as Ludguo left the boss’ living room in anger only to return minutes later with a knife and stabbed her in the chest.

The police had said the 22-year-old cleaner was desperate to send the money to his girlfriend in Cameroon, adding that the suspect would be duly prosecuted.

A mammoth crowd flooded The Vaults and Gardens on Thursday during the burial of the victim as tears streamed down the faces of many sympathisers.

The family members of the deceased were distraught to speak to journalists, but friends described Adeleke as a kind-hearted and passionate woman, who lived a virtuous life.

Problem In Our House Because Of By Brother's Girlfriend

I have two siblings, including me we are 3 altogether and our mom is late, so the three of us stay together in one house we built together. 

My brother has a girlfriend that spent a week with us this month and the first day, she was kinda sluggish which I hate like waking up around 7am and staying in bed till 11am.

As expected, when you go to people’s house, you do what they do…

If they use only maggi to cook, you don’t add your own seasoning, even if its not your boyfriend you’re expected to do what they do and assist in every chores they do. 

First night she cooked, she used something like onga to cook although it’s not onga which purged me during that week but I endured. 

And she cooked “ewedu” that we don’t eat at home, my brother never eats ewedu, but he ate it because of her, I was really shocked because even if he’s hungry, he’ll never eat ewedu soup, but he ate it. I just assumed that it’s love and I cleared it from my mind. 

Until last week, he fought with my sister and punched her because she wasn’t happy with his girlfriend and she was giving her attitude. Even me, I’m not happy with her, but I don’t show it, but she showed it because she can’t take it, so he punched her and she started bleeding profusely on her nose, and that was the first time I would see them fight.

That’s not the end, he got her a new Phone, meanwhile my phone’s touch pad is bad and he hasn’t even said anything about it. 

Seriously guys, I’m angry and sad, I think this is getting out of hand already. 

And he’ll be asking me every time that “do I like his girlfriend?” But I really don’t have an answer because I don’t want to break his heart, I really don’t have an answer for him because I’m not happy with her vibe at all. She’s bringing badluck to our peaceful family.

OH DEAR! Nurse Pulls Off Baby’s Hand During Delivery

An auxiliary nurse, identified as Oyekanmi, has been arrested by the police for her role in the death of a baby she took delivery of in the Odogunyan, Ikorodu area of Lagos.
It was learnt that the victim’s mother, Adeola, had been taken to Oyekanmi’s residence last Saturday when she went into labour.

Oyekanmi, while attempting to force the delivery, was said to have pulled off the baby’s hand.

She was said to have advised that the child be taken to the Ikorodu General Hospital, where the dead child was finally delivered.

Doctors at the hospital were reported to have queried the baby’s parents on what truly transpired, and they opened up. The hospital management then alerted the police to the incident.

A source told Punch that Oyekanmi was picked up by the police.

The source said, “What happened was that the auxiliary nurse tried to deliver the woman of the baby, during which there was a complication. But she continued and in the end, the hand of the baby was pulled off while she tried to force the child out from the mother’s womb.

“Afterwards, they quickly packed the woman together and brought her to the general hospital. It had become a critical case by then. The remains of the dead child were brought out, while the matter was reported to the police.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, and said:
“The doctor at the hospital discovered that something was amiss after taking a close look at the dead child and seeing that one hand had been pulled off. All the parties were invited to make statements. It is a case of infanticide; investigations are ongoing.”

Types Of Bank Accounts Every Family Should Have

There is no agreement among money managers as to how many bank accounts an individual or family should have. Experts have come up with various numbers.
According to Funcheap Orfree, there are five bank accounts every family must have if they seek to manage their finances effectively.

Most families have one savings account and one current account. This has been the norm since dinosaurs roamed the earth. While it works well for many, it is believed that having only one or two bank accounts can make it harder to keep track of your money.

The fact is, most families statistically have trouble making and keeping a budget. This means that the system may just not work that well.

Below are five bank accounts every family should have:

1. Family emergency savings

As a rule, 20 per cent of your income should automatically go into savings each month, and this is the ultimate account for your savings. As a rule, this account is for absolute, dire “we are going to lose our house next week if we don’t do something” emergencies. Picture it as the fireproof apocalyptic vault hiding behind concrete walls in your basement, or the piggy bank you have to shatter to open. You should never touch this account unless it is your absolute last resort.

Savings money should be automatically withdrawn from your paycheque every month (20 per cent ideally) and deposited into this account. You should pretend that this money doesn’t exist when considering your income/budgets.

It needs to be an “out of sight, out of mind” account. Don’t even bring it up when calculating your money as a family, and NEVER consider it as an option for pulling money out of when needing to pay for something…unless it’s a literal life-or-death situation.

You can open this in any savings account, but it is recommended that you open this account through an online bank.

With this account, you can effortlessly protect your family from the worst-of-the-worst circumstances.

2. Family regular savings

This is your “holding tank” account; the savings account that you can tap into when needed. This account is used for holding three months’ worth of cash to live off at all times in case of a short-term emergency. It’s mainly used to hold money you are using to save up for something pre-planned (down payment on a house, new bedroom furniture, major home repairs, family vacation, new car, upcoming wedding, etc.), and to pay for unexpected expenses and emergencies (car repairs, new tires, unexpected home repair, etc.).

Automatically draft 10 per cent from your paycheques to this account every month until the three months of cash is saved up, with the other 10 per cent going to your ‘Family emergency savings account’.

3. Family current account

This is your “home base” account; the account where all paycheques/sources of income go initially. Your money starts here, then is transferred and allocated to other accounts. This is where you pay for minor car/home repairs, oil changes, utilities and all other bills (except for medical bills, more about this below), tithing/donations, and other family expenses. All bills are paid from this account, preferably on auto-pay when possible to avoid late fees.

Money shouldn’t stay for long in this account, because it will be divided up and allocated to other accounts shortly after depositing your paycheque. Set up auto-transfers to other accounts to streamline the process of sending your money where it needs to go. Once all your money has been deposited to this account and sent to where it needs to go, it will be easy to see if you have money leftover at the end of the month! Big pat on the back for leftover, un-spent money. Any money left over in this account should go to ‘Family regular savings’.

4. Wife’s current account

Your monthly budget comes from the ‘family current account’ to this account every month. The money you spend for the month, however, you see fit. Whether you use cash, debit card, or credit card, it all comes out of this account. It makes it easy to keep track of your budget, will make it hard to over-spend, and will allow you the autonomy to use your own methods for budgeting and spending for your family, and will give you a place to keep your own “fun money”!

You should use this money to cover your budgeted expenses for the month, which needs to be determined in advance by each individual family. Sit down and write out every single thing you spend money on, then divide up responsibilities! If you do the cooking, you should buy the groceries so you know what you need.

5. Husband’s current account

This is the account you use to pay for your budgeted monthly expenses. The same rules apply as with the ‘Wife current account’. By having the husband and wife current accounts, this gives each parent autonomy to spend, however, they see fit while still being held accountable for the overall budget amount.

40 New SUVs, Other Vehicles Recovered From Permanent Secretary In Abuja

Why should any sane person “steal” over 40 exotic vehicles belonging to Nigeria and all Nigerians just because he occupied a political office? Such impunity!

The Federal Government says it has recovered 40 brand new SUVs and other vehicles from a former Permanent Secretary who single-handedly appropriated the vehicles to himself when he left office.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos on the effectiveness of the anti-corruption strategy of the government.

Mr. Mohammed said the government was being guided by a well-articulated strategy in its fight against corruption, contrary to the misconception in certain circles that the government is fighting corruption without a strategy.

He said the government was not just fixated on only prosecution, but in taking preventive measures to make corruption unattractive.

“The strategy has proven so effective and that it has led to, among others, the recovery of 40 brand new SUVs and other vehicles from one former Permanent Secretary who single-handedly appropriated the vehicles to himself when he left office,” he said.

According to him, other measures to strengthen the anti-corruption fight, included the establishment of Presidential Committee on Asset Recovery, Asset Tracing Committee, Asset Register, and the Whistle Blower Policy.

BLACK CHRISTMAS: 187 Persons Dead So Far In Just 9 Days

Don’t Over-speed, Don’t Overtake recklessly, Don’t Overload.
Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, says 187 lives were lost in 289 road crashes across the country during the Yuletide. It stated that the crashes which involved 2,185 victims, occurred between December 19 and 27, 2016, adding that 998 people were rescued by the FRSC personnel while 1,000 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The Head, Media Relations and Strategy, FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, stated that 9,619 offenders were arrested for 10,970 offences, adding that 1,426 offenders were arraigned in mobile courts.

He further explained that 1,292 offenders were convicted, five imprisoned, while 129 were discharged.

Kazeem said the Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, commended the FRSC operatives for their commitment and motorists for complying with traffic rules and regulations during the nine-day nationwide patrol exercise along designated routes of the nation’s highways.

He said, “As of December 27, 2016, a total number of 289 road traffic crashes had been recorded involving 2,185 number of people with 1,000 people injured, 998 people were rescued alive and 187 people died. In the same vein, 9,619 offenders were arrested for 10,970 offences with 1,426 offenders arraigned in mobile courts, 1,292 were convicted, five imprisoned and 129 of them were
discharged.

“The FRSC Corps Marshal, Oyeyemi, noted that the massive deployment of personnel produced positive outcomes from the Lagos-Ibadan corridor to 9th Mile in Enugu, Onitsha head bridge and Sagamu construction areas, Ondo roundabout, Ore, Asaba among other corridors.”

Kazeem quoted Oyeyemi as urging the corps’ personnel to remain steadfast in their commitment during the New Year exercise while admonishing motorists to ensure sustained compliance with traffic rules and regulations, proper planning and management of trips through maintenance of their vehicles during the last phase of the patrol exercise.

To further achieve safe road use during the period, he said that the FRSC had scaled up its strategies for effective patrol of the highways, warning motorists and other categories of road users to desist from all road vices such as overloading, speed limit violation, non-use of seat belt, night trips, route violation (driving against traffic), and making or receiving calls while driving.

“The public is also reminded to call the FRSC toll free emergency number 122 and 070022553772 to report any road crash or any other traffic-related challenges, for prompt response.”

Where do I start really? How about the day we spoke. I had received a call from a friend asking me if I had a boyfriend and telling me one of his friends wanted my number. Initially, I was like “Gosh. These boys have come again”. So I asked the basics. What’s his name? Surname? Where did he see me? What exactly does he want? Is he a Christian and I don’t mean church-goer? What does he do? Is he fine? Lol! I was a bit skeptical but I gave my friend the permission to give this “new guy” called Chris Oguta my number. After the phone call, I proceeded to wear my Detective Cap immediately. Google to the rescue! I didn’t find much except for his LinkedIn profile. Bummer. I scrolled through and thought to myself, “This will have to do for now”.

I had thought Chris would act like the typical boy who would take ages to call (after begging for your number o! Forming will now start. Idongerrit) but he called me almost immediately. We clicked. Which is something rare for me especially with “prospective toasters”. Maybe it was due to the fact that he asked if he could take me out for a “meal” and I was like, what age are you from please? Who still uses the word “meal”? Are you a vampire? Lol. He called me razz and said it was Jand English. Right.

Wow, I’m only on the day we spoke still? Okay, let me speed this up a little…

So I agreed to going out for a meal with Chris and we set a date. He came to pick me up and the first thing I noticed was his very “yellow” hand. Then my eyes travelled up to his face. Niiiice. I liked what I saw. Totally different from his LinikedIn profile photo (Thank goodness, he has changed it now. I made sure of it). Talking to Chris felt… natural. We were so real around each other and it really was the best date I had ever had. I had been to Cactus several times before so it definitely had nothing to do with the venue or the ambience. I felt peace about this guy and I just could not explain it. By the time he dropped me home, we both didn’t want to leave each other’s sight.

The next couple of weeks was like a whirlwind. We spoke on the phone A LOT! Gosh, I wonder how we did it then. Our relationship was pretty much long distance – he lived on the mainland part of Lagos while I lived on the island. If you live in Lagos, you know that’s long distance. So, we made sure to spend time on weekends. I was attracted to his personality – especially his love for God and his respect for my values. I knew he was the one, and I knew he knew I was the one. Haha. Our love grew deeper and 3 weeks later, he officially asked me to be his girlfriend.

Chris and I both knew we were going to get married afterwards. There’s no way in the world I would have said yes to being his girlfriend if I wasn’t sure he was going to be my husband. It was in May that he asked me to marry him. I was having the worst day and he asked to take me out so I could clear my head. I should have figured out what was about to happen because he was acting so weird.

We were done eating and about leaving when my friend walked in. Immediately, it dawned on me and I started screaming. HAHAHA. He got down on one knee and I honestly don’t remember anything he said. Scratch that. I didn’t hear anything he said. Till he asked if I would marry him and I screamed, yes of course!

Is he the one? Absolutely. Does he make me happier than I ever imagined I could be? Absolutely. Am I excited to start this new chapter of marriage in my life? HECK YES!

I decided to click on the picture and with every other click through more of her pictures, I became more curious to find out who she really was. Her posts were not typical and for someone who had so many “followers”, it didn’t seem like she was selling something.

Already being very curious, I was faced with a dilemma. Should I DM her? Will that really be the best approach? Then from a stroke of luck (well, hard work actually because I went through virtually all her pictures), I saw a comment by a friend on one of her pictures. They seemed to be cordial, so I knew that was my inroad. (Meanwhile, she later told me that if I had gone through the DM approach, it would have been a NO NO. Thank God for saving me).

Days later, I was having a telephone conversation with her and asking her out for a ‘meal’. Our first meal/date went very well and I probably hadn’t felt so comfortable with anyone on the first conversation. That’s when I started to have the feeling that something special could be brewing. I did my background check (you can’t blame me, this is Lagos) and I was very happy with the feedback. Antoinette ticked all the boxes for me.

Few weeks later (including many hours spent on the telephone), we started dating officially. I genuinely believe it was the best thing that had happened to me. By the time I proposed in May, I had long known that Antoinette is the love of my life and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Fast forward to December and that’s exactly what I’ll be doing. Cheers to a great future to us!

Actress Carrie Fisher’s Mom Dies Two Days After Her Death

This is sad. Carrie Fisher’s mother, 84yrs old Debbie Reynolds, has also died. Madam Debbie who was taken to hospital by ambulance from her son’s Beverly Hills home yesterday with a reported stroke died at the hospital.

The actress was planning her own daughter, actress Carrie Fisher’s funeral before she also passed on.

Fisher died on Tuesday, four days after a heart attack on board a flight from London to L.A.

She was her mum’s only daughter.

Drug Traffickers Nabbed At Lagos Airport… excrete 50 wraps of cocaine

Two drug trafficking top men have been arrested with 1.2 kilogrammes of cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The suspects – David Achebe, 37, and 43-year-old Daniel Ndukwe – met their Waterloo on Saturday during outward screening of passengers on Ethiopian and Egypt airline flights by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the airport.

The detectives were said to have placed the duo on a close watch, during which Achebe excreted 45 wraps of cocaine while Nduwke expelled five wraps of the drug.

Achebe and Ndukwe had wanted to smuggle the narcotic to Hong Kong and Greece respectively.

Achebe, who deals in electronics, reportedly told investigators that a friend contracted him to traffic in cocaine with a promise of N5million for a successful operation.

He said, “I sell electronics at Alaba market. This is my first time of dealing in drugs. My friend in Hong Kong introduced me to cocaine smuggling. He sent the drug to me. The cocaine was in a black polythene bag containing plantain and pineapples.

“I swallowed the 45 wraps in my toilet without my wife’s knowledge. I was promised the sum of N5m which I had wanted to use in importing electronics. At the airport, they told me that scanning machine indicated that I had drugs on me. That was how I was arrested.”

Ndukwe in his confessional statement said he thought he would scale through the screening due to the small quantity of the drug, adding that he was to be paid N250,000.

“I have lived in Athens (Greece) for over a decade. I lost my job last year and things have been very bad financially. I came to Nigeria to visit my wife and two children. I had no plan to smuggle drugs until a friend called me from Athens that I should bring five wraps of cocaine. Since it is only five wraps, I felt it will be an easy task. He sent someone to give me the wraps in Umuahia (Abia State). I inserted the five wraps in my anus,” he said.

Punch reports that the NDLEA Commander at the airport, Mr. Ahmadu Garba, said investigation indicated that the suspects wanted to cash in on the Yuletide, thinking there would be laxity in the screening process.

“Both suspects tested positive for narcotic ingestion and while under observation, they expelled wraps of cocaine which they had wanted to smuggle out of the country. Achebe ingested cocaine weighing 935 grammes while Ndukwe ingested 215 grammes. The suspects are currently under investigation,” Ahmadu added.

The Chairman of the agency, Col. Muhammad Abdallah (retd), warned that those, who indulged in drug trafficking, would end up in prison.

Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo loses $4.8m to ponzi scheme

Popular Nigerian Pastor and founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre located in the UK, Matthew Ashimolowo, has lost $4.8 million to a Ponzi scheme after members on the board of his church invested the money into the scheme.

The ponzi scheme is owned by former Premier League soccer player, Richard Rufus, who used to be a defender for Charlton Athletic.


Rufus who is a former member on the board of the church, promised investors along with the church a return as high as 55 per cent. He was last year found guilty of defrauding about 100 investors out of a total of $10,731,159 (£8,682,343) in the £16-million investing scheme (read here).

Christian Post who shared a report of findings from an inquiry published on December 14th by the Charity Commission for England and Wales, disclosed that the church had a net loss of about $4.8 million (£3.9 million) after its trustees invested over $6.1 million (£5 million).

Kingsway International Christian Centre was the single largest investor in the scheme. The Charity Commission in the report presented after its investigation, stated that the church’s trustees made an initial investment and entered into an agreement in which they were guaranteed that the church’s investment would earn a profit of about 5 percent per month, with the exception of August and December when they were guaranteed profits of about 2.5 percent.

“The inquiry established that in practice, however, the investments resulted in a net loss of £3.9% million to the charity,” the report explains The report states that the church’s trustees who handed over the funds were guilty of “mismanagement.”

Dangote Loses Over 30% Of His Wealth In 2016

Africa’s richest man and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has lost 32 percent of his wealth, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires’ Index.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Dangote lost $4.9bn or one-third of his wealth as the combined effect of falling oil prices and the June devaluation of Nigeria’s Naira pushed him to No. 112 on the billionaires’ list with $10.4bn. 

Before now Dangote was the world’s 46th-richest person.

Saudi Arabia’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud fell by $4.9bn, a 20 percent drop, the report said.

Prince Alwaleed had said in November that all of his stakes in public companies, including Citigroup Incorporated, were potentially for sale, reversing a longstanding policy that some of his most-prized shareholdings were “forever.”

Militant Planning To Bomb Third Mainland Bridge Arrested

The police have foiled an attempt by a notorious Niger Delta militant group operating from the creeks of Ikorodu and Arepo on the outskirts of Lagos to blow up the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

A top commander of the group, Abiodun Amos, who is also known as Senti, an Ijaw from Arogbo, Ese-Odo area of Ondo State, who is also said to be the group’s explosive expert, was arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), who trailed him to a river bank at Majidun, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Two AK47 rifles hidden in a “Ghana-Must-Go” bag were found with the suspect. He led the IRT operatives to a vehicle parked discreetly within Ikorodu, where a large catche of dynamite and detonators was recovered— from its boot.

It was also learnt that Amos’ arrest followed intelligence generated by the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), which was passed on to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, indicating that the group was at its final stage of carrying out an attack on the Third Mainland Bridge—Africa’s longest at 13 kilometres.

The IGP, who was said to have been miffed by the report, directed his operatives at the IRT, led by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Abba Kyari, to investigate the report. It was confirmed that the group was actually planning to blow up the bridge at the end of November. The group, detectives discovered, had acquired large quantities of dynamite and several other explosives for the attack.

In October 2016, the group, which has no known identity and was notorious for pipeline vandalism, kidnapping and bank robberies, demanded for amnesty, threatening to disrupt the economy within Lagos and Ogun states if the Federal Government did not dialogue with it and grant its members pipeline protection contracts.

The leader of the militant group, known as “General” Ossy Ibori, who coordinated most of the bank robberies and high profile kidnappings, including that of three schoolgirls at Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu, four landlords at Isheri North, Oniba of Ibaland, Oba Goriola Oseni and many others within Lagos and Ogun states, boasted in an interview that his group had over 21 “generals” commanding 7,800 battle-ready boys.

He added that the group was rich enough to fight the Federal Government as it had acquired thousands of military grade arms and ammunition, which he said would be deployed in disrupting the economy within Lagos and Ogun states, should the Federal Government fail to dialogue with the group and grant its wishes.

Sources told The Nation that the IRT operatives made several arrests within Ikorodu and other parts of Lagos State. One of the suspects is said to have given the police the information, which they used in trailing and arresting Amos, who was on his way into the creeks.

The 43-year-old suspect confessed that his group was formerly into pipeline vandalism but they resorted to kidnapping when it became difficult for them to vandalise and sell their stolen petroleum products.

According to him; “We went into bank robberies and kidnapping because we wanted to get government attention and all we wanted was for them to grant us amnesty and also offer us pipeline protection contract. We have made several appeals and the government is not listening to us. “General” Ossy said ‘if we don’t blow up the Third Mainland Bridge government’ they would not listen to us. We had concluded plans and we decided to carry out the attack by November ending. I am the group’s explosive expert and before I was arrested we were going into the creek to conclude plans on how to carry out the attack.”

Police spokesman Don Awuna, a Deputy Commissioner (DCP) said: “Yes, an individual was arrested. On sighting the policemen, the second suspect jumped out of his car and escaped into the bush, abandoning the operational vehicle.

”On searching the vehicle, two cartons of Gelatine dynamite explosives and hundreds of detonators were recovered in the boot of the car. Efforts are in progress to arrest the remaining gang members”

Confusion As Man Refuses To Show Up For His Wedding

A bride and other guests at a wedding ceremony were left in shock after the groom failed to show up for the exchange of marital vows in church.
Now the man is blaming his absence on the devil.

Speaking with Amani Newspaper in Tanzania, the groom Samuel John Mwakalobo, said that he did not make his way to church to exchange wedding vows with his fiancée, Given Michael Mgaya, because the devil made him to snub the function.

The wedding was scheduled to take place in Mbeya area of the city and thereafter, a reception was to follow at Mkapa Conference Center.

“Families of either party are divided over the man’s behaviour. When the groom was asked why he snubbed his wedding, he did not give a concrete reason. Earlier, he had shown every sign of cooperation. I think he’d come across unappealing information (about the bride) that made him change his mind,” a source told Amani newspaper.

But when the media reached the groom for comment, he said someone must have bewitched him to snub his own wedding, maintaining he dearly loves his fiancee.

“I blame the devil for what transpired. I don’t know how my partner perceived my action. Honestly. I love her only; there’s no other woman who can take her place in my heart.”

A source said the man has apologised for his action, and is currently in good terms with his woman.
