Beyonce reminisces about Aaliyah with MTV VMA flashback on 15th anniversary of singer's tragic death

Reminiscing: Beyonce remembered Aaliyah on the 15th anniversary of her tragic death on Thursday by sharing this vintage MTV VMAs clip from 2000Beyonce took time out to remember Aaliyah on the 15th anniversary of the singer’s tragic death in a plane crash.
The Lemonade star was just 18 years old and three years shy of her Crazy In Love

success when she got a chance to speak to her idol at the 2000 MTV VMAs.

Beyonce was clearly the gushing fan and Aaliyah the gracious professional as the two chatted on camera during the pre-show.Mrs. Shawn (Jay Z) Carter was every inch the ingenue in her long golden gown with her wavy gold-streaked hair cascading down around her arms.
‘Miss Aaliyah, so good to see you. How you doing, girl?’ Beyonce was seen asking the more famous star. ‘What are you looking forward to seeing tonight?’
Aaliyah, who was then 21, answered that she’s looking forward to seeing D’Angelo perform.
‘Girl, I’m with you ’cause you know he’s fine,’ Beyonce responded with a gushing exhale.
‘He’s fine. He’s hot. He’s sexy,’ Aaliyah added.
The princess of R&B was looking elegant in a black one-shoulder gown and brassy arm bracelet.
Aaliyah is long considered to be one of the music industry’s biggest innovators and many artists, from Ciara and Beyonce herself, have been inspired by her singing style.
Beyonce’s clip is touching in that she shows the former Destiny’s Child star as a starstruck teenager, and less of the golden goddess she’s become.
In fact, some say that the driving beat that Destiny’s Child assumed can be traced back to Aaliyah’s 1998 hit Are You That Somebody.
