Want to go to college? Prove you are virgin: Egyptian lawmaker to women

NEW DELHI: A member of Egyptian parliament, Elhamy Agina, has reportedly said that universities should perform virginity tests on female students.

“Any girl who enters university, we have to check her medical examination to prove that she is a Miss,” Agina told Egypt’s Youm 7 newspapers, according to Egyptian Streets, a news website. “Therefore, each girl must present an official document upon being admitted to university stating she’s a Miss,” he added.

His heedless comment comes in close heels to his earlier remark last month wherein he had declared that Egyptian women should undergo “female genital mutilation” in order to “reduce their sexual desires”. Why, you ask? Because Egyptian men are “sexually weak.”

Agina further explained his statement saying that the virginity tests would help reduce the number of “Urfi marriages” in the country.

Now, what are “Urfi marriages”? Urfi marriages are marriages without the public approval of bride’s guardians. An Urfi marriage, thus, takes place in secret and only requires two witnesses. Pre-marital sex is forbidden in conservative Egyptian society and such marriages have often drawn flak from conservatives as a cover for sex before marriage.

He added that if a woman “fails” the virginity test, her parents would be notified immediately. He hopes that this will prevent couples from entering into such unions.

Because Egyptian men are “sexually weak.” so women must suffer and go through genital mutilation….. what a logic… why not simply chop off the hanging muscle organ of such “weak” egyptian menSajeev G

Agina had also come under a lot of fire recently for saying that the victims of a boat carrying migrants to Italy that capsized off Egypt’s coast last week “deserve no sympathy” because they were illegally migrating to pursue “an unguaranteed fantasy,” according to Egyptian media reports.
